Tactical Mission Planning and Briefing

Tactical Mission Planning and Briefing

This is the second NTOA course I have attended and both were very useful. This course was a great refresher for the SWAT Team Leader course, and it built upon the basic principles nicely.

The biggest takeaway for me was planning backward from the desired outcome of an operation, instead of thinking it through from start to finish. It’s a small tweak, but feels like it will be an incredibly useful concept.

Tactical Mission Planning and Briefing

The instructors did a great job of putting context to complex, rapidly evolving, stress filled incidents and many variables that need to be considered for alternate response options/plans.

Tactical Mission Planning and Briefing

The debriefs and tabletop discussions were very beneficial as it provided many different perspectives and approaches to resolve the incident. These conversations also gave better insight as to how to make the transition from patrol to SWAT more fluid. Great instructors who can speak from a lot of experience and are open to suggestions/questions.

Tactical Mission Planning and Briefing

Great class and the instructors seemed to have a good understanding of the topics. It was useful to see how other departments prepare for SWAT deployment and what they consider important information to document.

I really gained a lot during this course especially when it comes to planning missions and communications. With the lack of experience I have in this area this was very beneficial for me.

I really liked the fact the instructors had us engaged in the class as much as they did. I also enjoyed the instructors talk about personal experiences and outcomes.

Overall this course was well structured and balanced. I would definitely recommend this course to others.
