Crisis Negotiation (3 or 5 Days) |

This course is designed for individuals recently assigned
to crisis negotiations teams. Topics to be
covered include a historical and
contemporary perspective of CNT, team
structure and management, the tactical
operations center (TOC) concept, types of
crisis situations, hostage-taker profiles,
tactical force options, negotiation
processes, communication techniques and
negotiator stress. New negotiators will gain
the skills necessary for resolving a variety
of incidents.

Intermediate/Advanced Crisis Negotiations
(3 Days) |

This course is designed for experienced negotiators and
covers topics such as management of the
hostage/barricaded suspect situation, the
role of the psychologist during the
negotiations process, communication
techniques and negotiation strategies,
review/analysis of negotiation/tactical
incidents, communication role-playing,
psychological aspects of hostage
negotiations, overview of the tactical
operations center (TOC) concept and cultural
considerations during hostage negotiations.
Students will draw upon these concepts to
resolve a negotiation incident in a
field-training exercise on the final day.

Negotiations for First Responders
(1 Day) |
Patrol officers who are first responders to
critical incidents need essential
communication skills. Topics to be covered
in this one-day seminar include first
responder concepts and responsibilities,
types of critical incidents, communications
techniques, surrender and transition
techniques and negotiator stress.

SWAT/CNT Tactical Liaison (1 day) |
|
This course is designed for any officer, not just
negotiators or tactical operators, who may
be tasked with relaying information between
the two teams at a critical incident.
Subjects covered include information flow
models, uses and suggested qualifications of
a tactical liaison, selection and training
and equipment needs. Several classroom
scenarios wrap up the day, putting new
skills to the test.

| 911 Dispatcher Crisis Communications
(1 Day) |

This course is designed for police communications personnel
who may be called upon to deal with a
suicidal or mentally ill subject over the
telephone. Topics to be covered include
dealing with a barricaded suspect, active
listening skills, communications techniques
and intervention techniques for
crisis/suicide situations.
